Hamilton Township received a report on affordable housing and homelessness at its July 15 meeting, with the goal of collaborating with others rather than going it alone.
The Hamilton Township Homeless Taskforce report was discussed, with council debating whether to endorse the task force’s recommendations or have staff collaborate with other municipalities to develop solutions.
The task force held a workshop on housing and homelessness in February, inviting staff, real estate brokers, developers, politicians, lenders, and representatives from nonprofit organizations. It looked at issues affecting affordability.
After some debate at the meeting, politicians clarified that they should support the task force’s approach and collaborative efforts to address housing issues. Councillors reviewed a motion to direct staff to participate in a Northumberland County Housing implementation strategy session and consider recommendations in the official plan review process.
Here is the report presentation and discussion:
In Their Words is a feature that allows people to listen to what is going on at the various councils within Northumberland. No spin. No opinions. No one is telling you what to think. Just what was said.
It is a chance you might not have otherwise to hear directly from your elected representatives. I hope you find it useful and informative.
