The Northumberland County social services committee took a tentative step towards a permanent solution for a winter shelter next year at its meeting on June 3.
It approved the purchase of a mobile construction trailer for up to $350,000 as a long-term solution to provide shelter for unsheltered people. Building 18 at 700 Darcy Street was considered, but it required significant renovations and was adjacent to the Cobourg Community Centre.
The committee sent the recommendation to county council for a final decision.
Staff will gather additional information on the potential use of Building 18 before the June 17 regular county council meeting.

In Their Words is a feature that allows people to listen to what is going on at the various councils within Northumberland. No spin. No opinions. No one is telling you what to think. Just what was said.
It is a chance you might not have otherwise to hear directly from your elected representatives. I hope you find it useful and informative.
