Pressure is mounting on the Doug Ford government not to eliminate speed cameras in many Ontario municipalities, including Brighton.
That Northumberland County community, which just recently installed its camera near two schools, a daycare, and a large park, states that statistics prove that drivers are slowing down where the camera is located, making the area safer.
However, the Ford government is labeling the Automated Speed Enforcement program a “cash or tax grab,” making life more expensive.
Yet Brighton and 22 other municipalities say instead of scrapping the program, make changes that are reasonable to drivers and accomplish safety goals.
