No municipality has stepped up to take over the warming/cooling room project, so far.
Director of Health and Human Services Glenn Dees reported the news to the Community Health Committee members at the July 16 meeting.
Politicians discussed the establishment of a new warming hub in Northumberland County following the closure of the facility at 310 Division Street on July 4.
Politicians discussed services, transportation, and municipal involvement. Dees noted that while 310 Division offered extensive support, overnight hubs might be more limited.
No municipalities have volunteered to host the hub, and transportation is still undecided.
Cobourg Mayor Lucas Cleveland asked Cramahe Township Mayor Mandy Martin why her municipality was not stepping up, while Martin defended their efforts.
A resolution was proposed to request municipal responses by the next council meeting and to receive an update at the next regular council meeting.
The verbal report was accepted for informational purposes at the regular county council meeting on Aug 13. There were no questions or debate.
In Their Words is a feature that allows people to listen to what is going on at the various councils within Northumberland. No spin. No opinions. No one is telling you what to think. Just what was said.
It is a chance you might not have otherwise to hear directly from your elected representatives. I hope you find it useful and informative.
