The Northumberland County Social Services Committee received a snapshot of the housing and homelessness situation in 2025 at its recent meeting, including a call to expand outreach and a need for a capital repairs program for its affordable housing units.
Rebecca Snelgrove, the associate director of Housing Homelessness, Community and Social Services, delivered the 2025 annual report. There were more than 1,305 households on the waitlist for affordable units. This is slightly less than the 1,348 households in 2024.
Of those who needed subsidized housing, 60 were housed, and 14 received assistance with rental costs. There were 31 households at risk of becoming homeless, but were supported by the county to prevent eviction. There were 76 spaces for unsheltered people.
