The Brighton Homelessness Task Force’s recommendations from its December 9 meeting were discussed, emphasizing the need for municipal recognition of unhoused residents’ rights, advocacy for increased federal and provincial funding, and a revised community safety and well-being plan.
The Task Force proposed setting aside $50,000 from grant funding for service coordination, landlord and tenant training, and staff support.
They also recommended maintaining public washrooms, collaborating with transit operators, and updating a list of support services.
Concerns about budget implications were raised, but the motion was unanimously carried, highlighting the importance of community support and service continuity.
