Alnwick Halidmand Township politicians held a lively debate on Jan. 13 over the future of 10 properties, potentially for sale to raise revenue for a major upgrade to Memorial Arena.
Several outstanding issues emerged as the debate progressed.
Council is looking at a strip of land at Silver Maple and Tucker Road, but needs to confirm ownership and the possibility of selling it to an adjacent landowner.
Council is also looking at potential uses for the ballpark and parkland at the Memorial Arena and Park on County Road 2.
Another request was to look at a McDonald Road parcel adjacent to the Northumberland Forest to determine marketability.
Additionally, staff were asked to investigate the wetland status of a parcel on Clitheroe Road.
In addition to the numerous details politicians asked for the first 10 properties, it was decided to proceed to the next set of 10 properties and report back to council.
Disposal of surplus land is one of the proposed funding strategies for the $3.75 million arena project to refurbish the ice pad at Memorial Arena.
