
Hamilton Township council decided to get more information before voting on a proposal to recruit doctors on a county-wide basis under the umbrella of the Ontario Health Team—Northumberland on May 20.
However, the next day, the Northumberland County council endorsed hiring a physician recruiter on a two-year contract. The recruiter would focus on attracting doctors and nurse practitioners to the area. The county already has several groups seeking to attract healthcare professionals to Northumberland. The Ontario Health Team – Northumberland has been pushing for months for a unified, single recruitment effort. Representatives for the health team gave a presentation to county representatives about one year ago.
Hamilton Township Mayor Scott Jibb spoke against the county’s plans at the county council meeting on May 21.
