A new ice allocation policy by the Alnwick-Haldimand Township has brought not only the ire of long-time leagues, but a quick about-face by Council leadership.
A men’s and women’s league operating for a combined 75 years at the arena in Grafton claims they were bumped from their regular ice time in favor of a minor hockey team, which has access to arenas in Northumberland County.
Tara Raymond said the women’s league was displaced without warning by the Township.
Yet Council passed a motion on Tuesday would see ice users meet yearly to discuss ice availability, much to the pleasure of hockey enthusiasts and the public.
