
Tenant rights groups across Ontario are upset with the government over a series of changes to laws affecting landlords and renters. Housing Minister Rob Flack says the legislation is not altering anyone’s protections. Yet, the other side argues their rights are being gutted. They say the bill puts profits over people.
In this interview, Peter Vance, a paralegal and community legal worker at Northumberland Community Legal Centre, will go over the changes and reflect on their impact on both tenants and landlords in the county. Some experts believe this will increase homelessness in communities as more renters are evicted and fewer places are available to rent locally.
