Biography (500 words)
I moved to Port Hope with my family in October of 2006.
My work career began as a Public-School teacher, initially with the Northumberland Board. After teaching I moved into a number of businesses encompassing manufacturing, distribution and retail. From the early days of microcomputer sales, consumer electronics and television shopping I learned a great deal about marketing, public relations and problem solving. Being responsible for millions of dollars in sales, I have worked globally with both large and small companies.
From 2000 to 2013, I served as Vice President of a company based in San Diego. Travel to many cities in the United States was necessary for marketing an innovative product line. Significant travel to Asia was also important to ensure the production of quality product.
With my experience in illuminated products, I was granted a patent on a device of my own invention that I continue to sell today.
In 2010 I joined the fledgling Port Hope Ratepayers’ Association where I quickly assumed the role of Chair. Constantly attending Council sessions and meeting with residents, I gained a substantial grasp of the issues affecting the community. It was a logical extension to run for Council in 2014.
During my time on Council, I brought an attention to detail coupled with creative thinking, particularly with my portfolio of Works and Engineering. Getting to know staff well and listen to their comments I was able to encourage and assist in making a complete change to the Transit System, save tens of thousands of dollars on the Barrett Street bridge replacement and bring about better opportunities for a more proactive approach to service.
There were many occasions where I had significant interaction with members of the community. Getting to better understand real needs was important to sound decision making.
Since 2018, I have harnessed my time and attentions to the Board for Port Hope United Church where I have spearheaded significant governance changes and successfully developed meaningful communication methods such as high-quality video recorded services and regular newsletters throughout COVID.
I have chosen to re-engage with Municipal government in order to once again examine and suggest ideas that deliver excellent service to the Community and promote strong growth.

Please answer each question clearly and concisely in no more than 500 words.
1.Why are you running for council?
Through my time as an advocate for Port Hope Ratepayers and as a Council member, I was able to add significant input into making meaningful improvements for our community.
While there are a number of “issues” that garner public attention, I stress the need for Council members to make sound decisions, in general, based on a clear understanding of all issues that come before Council. This implies dedication to research and communications on many levels. A Council member needs a working understanding of all portfolios and an “in depth” understanding of their own portfolio.
I enjoy the challenge and the opportunity to engage with people in our community.
2. What is the single, primary reason you are running?
To provide skills and experience to tackle all issues that arise.
3. What will you do to address this issue?
Build strong relationships and make sure I both understand what needs to be done and how to get it done.
4. Identify one success of the previous council?
No response to this.
5. Identify one criticism of the previous council?
Not a productive question.
6. How will you address the one issue you identified from the previous council?
N/A
7. Why should voters select you over others?
I have proven experience, solid relationship skills and the ability to provide creative solutions to solve problems and create opportunities.
