Biography (500 words)
Born in Scarborough and raised in Durham, Adam became a father at a very young age and worked to support his family through various general labour jobs. At the age of 19 he opened his first buy and sell business, CD Traders, in Whitby. Adam ran this business from 1992 to 1996, when he sold the store.
After selling the store, Adam moved his family to Lindsay, where he continued to work in the Buy and Sell field. During this time-frame he also became a foster parent for Reaching Out Family Homes.
In 2002 Adam was in a serious car accident and had to move closer to Toronto for extended treatment and rehabilitation. After a brief stay in Pickering his family then found a place in Colborne that was big enough for his growing family, now numbering three girls of his own as well as the family’s four foster children.
A rewarding and fulfilling period of fostering children allowed the family to eventually have the privilege of caring for over 42 foster children.
After his rehabilitation, Adam decided to open a store in downtown Cobourg called Cobourg’s Buy and Sell in 2008. This store is still in operation today.
Since 2015 Adam has dedicated his free time to help improving our community by joining the Downtown Business Improvement Area, and subsequently running for council in 2018. After a successful election campaign, he has taken these past four years seriously as a community leader.
If re-elected Adam looks forward to continuing to work hard to help improve the town for the residents of Cobourg by making smart and informed decisions that positively impact the people and the community that he calls home. Adam wholeheartedly believes and lives his campaign slogan: Our Town, Our Future!
Identify one hobby or guilty pleasure you do that is not related to your profession or politics:
Like most of my friends … I like to sit back, relax, and watch my Toronto Maple Leafs.
Please answer each question clearly and concisely in no more than 500 words.
1.Why are you running for council?
I am seeking reelection for council because throughout my years in Cobourg, I have grown to love our community and its people. I have dedicated over eight years of volunteering and four years on council. I believe I have made an impact on each board and committee I have sat on and want to continue do so for the next four years.
2. What is the single, primary reason you are running?
Having served previously I have no delusions about the work and challenges involved on making our community a better place for everyone in Cobourg. I know with the experience and listening to the concerns of the town’s residents that I can continue to be a strong and passionate voice in council for family, friends and our neighbors.
3. What will you do to address this issue?
I take pride in being readily available to the public. I believe a town councilor works for the residents of Cobourg. My goal the next four years, as it has been for the last four years, is to make educated decisions with sustainable practices and with our community input.
4. Identify one success of the previous council?
One of the successes of last term was council’s decision to form new committees such as the Sustainable Climate Emergency advisory committee and the Equity Diversity and Inclusion Committee. I know with the establishment of both of these committees, this is just one example of how the previous council has made this town a better place to live and work.
5. Identify one criticism of the previous council?
One criticism is our new transit system and the operations of it. As a forward thinker I agree in the principle of the on demand service but I believe it was too soon to launch during the pandemic. We needed to do a better job in the preparation, especially in educating the public about the change, in particular in the new way it works before starting it.
5. How will you address the one issue you identified from the previous council?
I firmly believe that the solution is to bring back a bus route and the on-demand service at the same time. Then we would have real data on which operation works best for our residents, before making a final decision.
6. Why should voters select you over others?
I work hard and I am passionate about our community. If a person in our town, any person, wants or needs to talk to a councilor about any issue, at any time, I have been there for them in the past and will be there for them in the future.
