Cobourg’s top cop is warning against labeling a recent incident at the beach as stemming from possible drug activity. Media reports that earlier this month a woman stepped on a discarded needle at the beach and is now receiving treatment for possible bloodborne infections. Mayor Lucas Cleveland said enough is enough and that law enforcement should be involved. However, Chris Leather tells Robert Washburn of Consider This that currently there is no evidence linking the syringe to drug use or determining how the needle arrived on the beach. He suggests this may be a public health issue, rather than a criminal one.
Affordability and connectivity are central themes to Steven Haylestrom’s election platform, as he seeks to become mayor of Trent Hills in the Oct. 26 municipal election. The Warkworth native is asking what the future of the area will look like for young people. Housing is top of mind for Haylestrom, who wants to build homes people want. Haylestrom is competing against Michael Metcalf for mayor of Trent Hills.
