On May 27, Jim and Anne Purvis donated 187 acres to the Northumberland Land Trust. The property lies on the western tip of Wilson Island, next to the Murray Marsh. It is the second land donation in 2025.
The lands are provincially significant as they are home to the Eastern Meadowlark, Black Tern, Eastern Wood-peewee, and Midland Painted Turtle, among other species.
Another significant property, Biddy Creek Wetland, located just north of Little Lake Road, was donated to the land trust back in February.
For this week’s show, we mark the most recent donation with this conversations about Biddy Creek and its importance to preserve ecologically vital lands within Northumberland County.
Then, you will hear from Alderville Chief Taynar Simpson. In this interview, you will learn about his recent trips to two significant conferences: one to the United Nations and the second to a nuclear industry conference to discuss the future of the power plant in Wesleyville.
