The Ontario Health Team of Northumberland is celebrating a milestone in improving local access to primary care by clearing its priority Health Care Connect waitlist of residents registered as of Jan. 1, 2025.
More than 1,600 residents were connected with a doctor or nurse practitioner as of June 2026. Five hundred of those people were on the waitlist before Jan. 1, 2025. The announcement also said that local organizations have secured provincial funding to establish and expand Interdisciplinary Primary Care Teams to increase residents’ access to team-based care.
As a result, all residents registered before Jan. 1, 2025, have been offered attachment opportunities. Residents without a local family doctor or nurse practitioner are encouraged to register with Health Care Connect, Ontario’s centralized patient attachment program.
Ram Puva, Executive Lead of the Ontario Health Team of Northumberland, says connecting these residents is significant.
