A 10-day campaign to raise $70,000, hoping to add a nurse practitioner and mental health supports to the existing roster, was announced at Port Hope council on June 17.
The announcement included an update on the clinic from Northumberland County Health and Human Services Director Glenn Dees. He highlighted its origins, funding, and operations. The clinic aims to serve the 8,000 Northumberland residents who are currently without primary care. That number is projected to rise to 20,000 by 2026.
Initial funding of $135,000 from community partners was supplemented by $187,000 from Northumberland County. The clinic saw over 600 patient visits in six months, with a significant number of clients being older adults.
You will hear Dees’ presentation and the subsequent questions from Port Hope politicians.
In Their Words is a feature that allows people to listen to what is going on at the various councils within Northumberland. No spin. No opinions. No one is telling you what to think. Just what was said.
It is a chance you might not have otherwise to hear directly from your elected representatives. I hope you find it useful and informative.
