Despite the rainy, wet, and cold conditions, many children and youth tried to hook the biggest fish at a long-running derby in Northumberland County last weekend.
Historically taking place one week after the start of trout fishing season, the Castleton Sports Club invites children 14 and under to a stocked pond.
This tradition has been going on at Rykon’s Pond for nearly 40 years.
The largest fish caught Saturday was 3 lbs, 1oz, while the best Sunday fish was just over 2 lbs.
Jeff Turney, a director with the Castleton Sports Club, says the Club is attempting to introduce a new outdoor activity to children.
