Artificial intelligence seems to be invading so many aspects of our modern life. Yet, it can be a useful tool, despite some valid concerns.
Cobourg police are working with the Owen Sound Emergency Communications Centre and Hyper AI to introduce a new non-emergency response call-answering system. It is meant to handle general inquiries, base report intake, and other routine calls to the police. It is not used for 911 emergency calls.
In this interview, you will hear Cobourg police Staff Sergeant Scott Brambridge and Phil Mandryk, IT manager for the Cobourg police, explain how it works and what it will do to help local police deal with the increasing demand on the non-emergency answering system.
Have a listen and see if you think it is a step in the right direction.
