The Edmonton Sun reports the Cobourg fire department was not properly equipped to deal with the Horizons Plastics fire Monday night.
The report on the fire comparing it to a similar serious blaze in Edmonton. Having listened to local broadcasts and read our newspapers, there is not one word from the fire department saying they couldn’t handle what took place. It is an interesting perspective. The bigger question is the cost involved in having a fire department that has equipment for every eventuality. The reason the mutal aid system of fire departments assisting each other is to save money and still provide excellent coverage. Each department provides specialized equipment to help the others. CFB Trenton’s aerial truck assisted with the foam spray that eventually put out the blaze in the final stages. That makes a lot of sense in a small town.
