What could be a major boost to the Canadian economy with the announcement of five nation-building projects by the Prime Minister last Thursday, the Chief of the Alderville First Nation in Northumberland County is watching closely to see how Ottawa progresses with the development of small modular reactor expansion at the Darlington nuclear site, which is within the traditional territory for the Alderville First Nation.
Taynar Simpson says he wants the federal government to respect the duty to consult requirements for this project, a right Mark Carney is pledging to honour, stating that Indigenous Peoples should be partners in this economic expansion.
