A love of hockey and a passion for painting have led a retired broadcaster with ties to Northumberland County to exhibit his latest artwork at the Northumberland Arts Gallery.
Brian McFarlane, a longtime hockey broadcaster for Hockey Night in Canada and CBS and NBC in the United States, had a passion for art and took lessons before entering the sports industry.
He set aside his hobby for 50 years to pursue other projects, returning to painting after retirement by taking a class in Florida, where he created pond hockey portraits.
While he says many Americans do not play or understand pond hockey, for McFarlane, it was a traditional winter activity growing up.
