Cobourg Police Chief Paul VandeGraaf is officially scheduled to step down on Friday, May 22.
This is his final interview with me. Behind him, as he is talking over Zoom, there is a stack of boxes. The shelves in the bookcase also look pretty empty, with only a few family photos waiting to be packed.
This interview reflects the Chief’s career. It is not just about his time in Cobourg. It goes all the way back to when he decided he wanted to be a police officer. It will cover his rise through the ranks. He will also talk about his time working with other police during the multi-force investigation, the charging and conviction of Russell Williams. It is a topic he rarely, barely ever discusses.
In this second part of the final interview with the Chief, it will delve into the controversial 2026 budget deliberations, the modernization of policing, and a more personal side of the man, including his retirement plans.
Have a listen and see if you knew this side of him.
