The Northumberland Land Trust and Ducks Unlimited recently saved 300 acres of rare wetlands near Brighton.
The Biddy Creek Wetland is located on the south side of Highway 401, north of Little Lake Road. It is a regionally significant area, like unique wetlands, usually found in Northern Ontario. This habitat is critical because it is home to several species at risk and provides flood protection and water filtration for the surrounding area.
In this interview, you will learn more about this fantastic property and the efforts taken locally and by organizations across Canada to save it from possible development. At the same time, it preserves natural spaces in the county in the face of pressures to build housing.
Andrés Jiménez, the Head of Conservation in Ontario for Ducks Unlimited Canada, and Sabrina Hasselfelt, the Stewardship and Operations Coordinator for the Northumberland Land Trust, will provide insight into how this initiative came about and its importance.
