At its regular meeting on June 17, Port Hope council heard from Sarah Morra from Vote 16 Canada, who asked politicians to involve more young people in municipal decision-making.
Morra proposed extending advisory board eligibility to 16- and 17-year-olds, citing recent successes in Toronto and other cities, where municipal leaders opened opportunities for youth to be involved. The proposal includes opening chances for young people to serve on committees, like the Port Hope Public Library Board, Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee, Accessibility Advisory Committee, Environmental Advisory Committee, and Heritage Port Hope Advisory Committee.
Listen to Morra’s full presentation and the subsequent discussion about the proposal.
In Their Words is a feature that allows people to listen to what is going on at the various councils within Northumberland. No spin. No opinions. No one is telling you what to think. Just what was said.
It is a chance you might not have otherwise to hear directly from your elected representatives. I hope you find it useful and informative.
