The Northumberland Land Trust has completed its acquisition of 187 acres of land on Wilson Island in the Trent Hills.
The Inscape Nature Reserve is located at the western tip of Wilson Island, directly adjacent to the Murray Marsh, providing refuge for species at risk and provincially significant habitats such as grasslands, swamps, and shorelines.
Amanda Newell, Executive Director of the Northumberland Land Trust, says acquiring this land is significant, as island donations for protection are very rare.
The protected area will not be accessible to the public, but the Northumberland Land Trust is expected to care for and maintain it.
