A new bridge in Campbellford, which could be potentially vital to that community’s growth, could be in jeopardy unless it either receives grants or provincial and federal funding.
Design of the new Trent River Crossing, a second bridge, is nearly complete, but Northumberland County only has $15.5 million of the needed $56 million for the project.
Without additional support, County mayors are cautious about the idea of taking on close to $40 million in debt.
However, while the project could see construction begin next year, council will need to make a decision soon on whether to proceed with the project.
