The Mobile Community Food Market, in rural municipalities in Northumberland County, is gaining traction.
After opening a twice-monthly market in Grafton, the Community Health Centres of Northumberland expanded to neighbouring Colborne earlier this year.
The markets offer locally or provincially grown produce, raised meats and prepared foods such as homemade soups and meat pies at a discounted price. Shoppers can also buy only what they need to avoid the extra costs of buying in bulk.
Joelle Pegg, the Food Market Coordinator, says approximately 12 people are becoming regulars at the Colborne market. She says while the downtown location is great, reaching more residents may require operating possibly in the evening or on weekends.
