Area beekeepers are preparing for the upcoming season by hosting two information sessions, aimed at getting youth involved in the industry.
The Northumberland Junior Beekeepers Program is a hands-on program for children who follow beekeepers through an entire season, from classroom learning to maintaining a hive and colony to extracting honey.
John MacFarlane of Hunnabees Honey and Co. of Millbrook and Dana Pitrillo of Dancing Bee Equipment discuss the program’s intention to motivate young people to take up beekeeping. Information sessions will be held via Zoom on Feb 4 and 10 for youth ages 9-14.
