The two co-chairs of the Community Liaison Committee for Transition House at 310 Division Street in Cobourg gave county politicians an update on efforts to build improved relations with the community, along with the committee’s goals for 2026.
Beth Bellaire and Chole Craig appeared before the social services committee on Jan. 7, noting key accomplishments, including establishing a presence on the county website, creating a monthly newsletter, developing a Facebook page, and initiating a speaking schedule for the shelter’s Executive Director, Christian Harvey.
The committee also developed an experiential activity called “A Day in the Life” and collaborated with the Northumberland Community Legal Center and the Affordable Housing Committee on housing awareness banners.
For 2026, they plan to continue the newsletter, maintain the Facebook page, and conduct monthly speaking engagements. They also aim to take their initiatives to all seven municipalities and explore research opportunities with the Trent Community Research Center.
In Their Words is a feature that allows people to listen in on what is happening at the various councils in Northumberland. No spin. No opinions. No one is telling you what to think. Just what was said.
It is a chance you might not have otherwise to hear directly from your elected representatives. I hope you find it useful and informative.
