Northumberland County politicians revised their procedures to be more flexible regarding member attendance at meetings online.
Council members will be able to attend no more than three council meetings online per year, but they can participate electronically for any committee meeting.
The changes come after Cobourg Mayor Lucas Cleveland was unable to join a regular county council meeting on April 16 via Zoom.
Cleveland, who was in Ottawa attending a conference, joined the meeting but was unable to participate or vote. The bylaw states that all members of the council must attend regular council meetings in person, unless there are exceptional circumstances. County councillors can send an alternate.
In Their Words is a feature that allows people to listen to what is going on at the various councils within Northumberland. No spin. No opinions. No one is telling you what to think. Just what was said.
It is a chance you might not have otherwise to hear directly from your elected representatives. I hope you find it useful and informative.
