It was out with the old and in with the new for Cobourg Councillor Randy Barber at the special council meeting held Aug. 6.
Barber, who was the former chair of the West Northumberland Physician Recruitment Committee, was tapped as council’s representative to the new Northumberland County Physician Recruitment Advisory Committee. Each municipality in the county was asked to assign a council member to the new body.
County council voted in June to spend nearly a quarter of a million dollars each of the next two years to take over doctor recruitment. Last month, it issued a call for businesspeople to join a recruitment advisory committee.
Councillor Miriam Mutton offered several recommendations, including the need for an honorarium to cover travel costs and other expenses for the new committee members. She also suggested the need for proportional representation on the committee.
Mayor Lucas Cleveland promised to raise the point about covering the costs of members. He also noted the need for proportional representation, but added that for now it was important to trust the other member municipalities.
In Their Words is a feature that allows people to listen to what is going on at the various councils within Northumberland. No spin. No opinions. No one is telling you what to think. Just what was said.
It is a chance you might not have otherwise to hear directly from your elected representatives. I hope you find it useful and informative.
