The Albert Street Washroom, located at the Victoria Rotary Park along the waterfront, will become a new tourism and customer service hub for the summer, Cobourg council decided at its last regular council meeting.
The main foyer will be set up for public access, with the washrooms open to the public and a connection between the downtown and waterfront areas, according to a report to council.
The exterior door will be closed to monitor access, but the interior entrances to the washroom will be accessible for public use. Tourism ambassadors will monitor the space and provide tourism information to visitors. Security will be in place.
Security staff were put in place in December in response to concerns about public use of the washrooms at the outdoor skating rink, with a $100,000 budget.
