Half the people currently using Northumberland County’s emergency shelter are seniors. Christian Harvey, the interim executive director of Transition House at 310 Division Street, said these people are being pushed out of their homes by landlords. They are unable to find an affordable place to live.
He also said the general public thinks people who experience homelessness do so because it is their own fault. Others see it as a personal moral failing of that individual. He said neither of those things is true.
