Frustration is mounting among Northumberland County mayors over where to locate a winter warming room for homeless people.
The previous location at an emergency shelter in Cobourg was closed in July.
Since then, officials have been searching for a new location. A staff report prepared ahead of Wednesday’s County Council meeting outlines three potential options.
However, each site presents its own set of challenges. Two of the locations are in rural municipalities in the county and would require transportation services to and from Cobourg.
A homelessness worker questioned the viability of transportation and raised possible safety concerns. At the same time, a resident in a rural community stated that her town is too small to host a warming room.
While mayors debate whether the community should host the warming room, a decision will have to wait for an emergency meeting.
