Property taxes! How much are local taxes going up this year?

Hopefully, I have your attention right now. January is budget month across Northumberland County. Municipal councils are working overtime to finalize their budgets. And politicians are on the hot seat. That also means the staff faces tons of pressure to get the numbers right. It’s that balance between the services people want and how much taxes they are willing to pay for them.

With inflation at six to seven percent right now. And the economy is on the brink of a recession. The cost of everything is more. From the price of groceries to a box of nails is going to cost you more. Nobody is immune.

More importantly, we are all feeling the pinch. Some more than others.

In this interview, you will hear details about the county budget. It is expected to be finalized before the end of the month. The first draft of the budget put the increase at seven percent. That will mean an average increase of $78. Jennifer Moore, the CAO for Northumberland County, will explain what is happening.
