Three Cobourg high school students appeared before Cobourg council on Aug. 6 proposing a unique way to raise money for local charities.
Molly Spiewak, Rory Vanderhyden, and Avery MacPherson, of the Kindness Collective Fund, are asking for two meters in the downtown to be designated. The money collected from the special meters would go directly to a charity or non-profit organization of the council’s choosing.
The students suggested local artists be commissioned to decorate the meters to encourage community support.
The three presented a detailed proposal to politicians, including suggested marketing and other items. Councillors were impressed with their ideas. A unanimous motion was passed to undertake a one-year pilot.
