Trent Hills Mayor Bob Crate is generally a pretty laid-back guy. But not in this interview.
The Alto High-Speed Rail project has him and his council very upset. So are many residents in Trent Hills. This comes after the proposed project’s path goes straight through the heart of the municipality, affecting the villages of Hastings and Campbellford, as well as the surrounding area.
The high-speed rail project is expected to extend from Toronto to Peterborough, Ottawa, Montreal, and on to Laval. It will reach speeds of 300 km/h with an estimated cost of up to $120 billion. It will take three hours to go from Toronto to Montreal and two hours to go from Toronto to Ottawa.
In this interview, you will learn about Crate’s concerns about the lack of information and consultation with residents and local politicians. He will explain what is being done to change this before the consultation period closes at the end of March.
Take a listen to see whether you will be affected by this proposal and what it means for Northumberland County.
