A program in Northumberland County to combat youth homelessness is now accepting referrals from youth.
Nightstop offers an alternative housing solution for youth ages 16-24 experiencing homelessness by enlisting carefully vetted community members to volunteer their spare bedrooms as temporary shelters for youth in need.
There is currently no youth homelessness program in the county.
Referrals can be made directly by the youth, a trusted adult, community-based organizations, police, schools, and teachers.
Once a referral is accepted, Rebound Child and Youth Services conducts a risk assessment and reference check before placing the youth in an approved home.
Rebound Child and Youth Services Executive Director Sam Rockbrune says there are approximately 15 homeless youth in Northumberland County.
