The Northumberland Community Legal Centre is receiving support from United Way Northumberland to combat poverty.
The Legal Centre has launched “Haven for All,” an initiative to provide grocery gift cards to help purchase food items.
An eligible single person may receive a $25 card, while a family may receive a $50 card.
Legal Centre Executive Director Lois Cromarty says while the amounts may not seem significant, they do make a difference for those struggling financially.
The Legal Centre also offers advice on legal matters, landlord-tenant situations, and many other programs for low-income people in the community. These services are free and confidential.
