The 2026 Port Hope budget process was launched at the regular council meeting on July 15.
Finance Director David Baxter and his staff presented to politicians, outlining the process and emphasizing the strategic alignment and community values.
He reviewed the 2025 budget, which included a $ 100,000 investment in economic development, a $4 million allocation for the Walton Street Phase III project, and funds for infrastructure. A two percent annual increase in property taxes would be necessary just to cover inflation, he told council.
Both staff and politicians spoke to the importance of community engagement and the need for transparency.
Here is the presentation, council’s questions, and responses.
