It will be difficult for a property development in Cobourg to gain public and municipal council support, after a presentation Wednesday revealed a modern nine-story 196 residential unit is being proposed to be built in the historic downtown.
Residents were primarily opposed to the project citing the building goes against the feel, look, and goals of Cobourg.
Two former mayors outline the development goes against current bylaws and the town’s official community plan.
As for council, Mayor Lucas Cleveland is in support of developing the current parking lot, but not to this scale.
This pushback may force the developers to return to the drawing board and present a new proposal.
