Port Hope council voted to purchase services for an online and telephone voting platform for the next municipal elections, despite Deputy Mayor Vicki Mink’s concerns about potential fraud and voter integrity at its June 17 regular council meeting.
In a report to council on June 3, staff recommended the council continue to implement internet and telephone voting for the 2026 Municipal Election, given the additional convenience and accessibility offered to voters.
Since 2014, the town has used telephone and internet voting to successfully administer municipal elections, including the most recent by-election in Ward 2.
Mink expressed numerous barriers and scenarios, to which the town staff responded. Several councillors also weighed in, giving their take on the move away from paper ballots to alternative voting methods.
