Enthusiasm is building as restoration efforts for a historic church near Port Hope are soon set to get underway.
The Friends of Wesleyville Village secured a $154,000 grant to restore the old United Church to its former glory.
In April 2021, an arson fire destroyed the vestibule and completely gutted the main chapel of the structure.
Since that time, the community has rallied around the volunteer group, raising enough money to install new windows.
The Ontario Trillium Foundation is providing a substantial grant.
The Friends of Wesleyville Village Chairperson, Kathy Dennis, says construction is expected to take one year, but the community will once again have a valuable meeting place.
