Cobourg Mayor Lucas Cleveland faced questions and concerns at a special council meeting on August 25 regarding his restructuring of the planning department and the hiring of Chris Challenger to lead it.
Using its strong mayor powers, Cleveland issued a directive on August 14, creating a development division as an umbrella department that combines the planning department, development engineering services, the building department, and economic development.
Cobourg Town Solicitor John Mascarin was present to field questions.
There were several public deputations, and a letter was also submitted, expressing concerns.
Council asked town staff to prepare a financial report on the implications of the mayor’s directive.
