County warden writes response to column

Dear Mr. Washburn;

I received a call today from one of your readers who was a little concerned and surprised about the tone of your letter to the editor today. I have now read it and want to make one or two points. The Wilson Island Bridge issue has progressed to the point where a joint RFP will be issued in February and we anticipate that the bridge will be replaced this year. …more
More importantly, however, is the fact that the project to provide broadband/high speed internet across Northumberland County was awarded last week. This project was huge, consumed a significant amount of time and resources not only at the County level but also pulled together representatives from across the county to work quickly and efficiently to apply for and successfully receive funding from Rural Connections 2. Subsequent to that there was more work on RFIs, then RFPs and finally the award of the project. This is undoubtedly one of the most important projects undertaken in recent memory to enhance economic development opportunities in the county. I am open to constructive criticism but when there are gaps in the information I make an effort to close them.

Regards,
Chris Herrington
Mayor, Municipality of Brighton
Past Warden of Northumberland County
